Other Characters Currently In-Game: Edward Teach (warden version), Isaac Higgintoot
Character Name: Edward Teach
Series: Our Flag Means Death
Age: mid to late 40s
From When?: End of S1
Inmate Justification: Edward is a pirate, a murderer, a person who 'loves a good maiming' and generally an outlaw all around. While he did briefly turn over a new leaf and surrender to the authorities with a view to becoming a law abiding citizen, his new attitude was ultimately discarded after Stede abandoned him, becoming as bad in actuality as his legend made him out to be.
Arrival: it's a canon update, so he'll be gone for a day (Barge time), then come back.
Abilities/Powers: Blackbeard is a standard human with no magical or otherwise enhanced abilities. He is a topnotch sailor, an exceptional sword fighter, very accurate with a dagger and a flintlock pistol, and can certainly hold his own in a fistfight (sometimes to a manic degree). He's developed a certain skill at avoiding being killed when stabbed in the gut (implausible though it may be), so he's cheated death on a regular basis in that respect.
Inmate Information: Edward 'Blackbeard' Teach is considered one of the most notorious pirates in history, his reputation being supposedly pretty cutthroat. As it turns out however, a lot of that reputation was fabricated or part of an act, with some aspects of that applying to both the historical Teach and this more loosely-based television version of the man. There isn't a ton of firsthand knowledge regarding the real Blackbeard's ruthlessness, but it is stated that despite his ferocious reputation, there are no verified accounts of his ever having murdered or harmed those he held captive. TV Blackbeard is a bit more violent, having murdered his abusive father when he was a teenager, confiding to Stede that was the only man he'd ever killed, although apparently he was responsible for other deaths more indirectly (ordering others to kill people), and was known to enjoy maiming men on occasion.
But then Blackbeard fell in love with Stede Bonnet and opted to pursue a different path—much to the disgust of his first mate Izzy Hands and his old shipmate Calico Jack, both of whom admired and reveled in the legendary evil persona of Blackbeard. Unfortunately for Ed and Stede however, circumstances conspired to split them apart, and from Ed's perspective, it seemed as though Stede had abandoned him when he failed to show up for a tryst in which they'd be starting their new lives together. Devastated and heartbroken, Ed returned to his old life, rejoining The Revenge and after first mate Izzy shamed him out of his depressive mood, became worse than he was before; making the 'legend' of Blackbeard his new reality, wasting no time in murdering his scribe and maiming his first mate, his entire demeanor much darker than it had been previously, even back in the early days of Blackbeard.
Needless to say, any warden who challenges him would be likely to experience attempted murder and/or maiming.
Path to Redemption: Ed started out on the Barge as a warden and unlike characters who canon update going from inmate to warden, Ed will retain his memories of that time, so there will be no significant acclimation period as far as the setting goes (aside from being very pissed off to be there), just him adjusting to the new developments in his canon life, accompanied by a major change in his attitude, which has become negative to an extreme extent.
Having been a warden before, he's very aware of their methods and motivations in general and is likely to scoff and view with disdain those that follow more conventional paths. He is very unlikely to accept any attempted wardening at all, but especially not any young optimistic types or relatively clueless Barge newcomers. Wardens with more cynical personalities could possibly relate to him better and vice versa.
Obviously, Ed will need to regain a more positive attitude and remember how unhappy he'd become with criminal/pirate life in general, and ultimately forgive Stede for rejecting him (not that Stede really did, at least not to the extent Ed perceives, but Ed doesn't know that), or even if he can't totally forgive him, he needs to find a way to let go of all that intense anger.
Back when Ed first confessed about murdering his father to Stede, part of the confession had been that he'd told people he witnessed the kraken (a legendary sea monster) killing his dad, telling Stede: 'I am the kraken,' with that being his greatest fear: that he was the monster he believed himself to be, and that ultimately becoming a reality in this canon update, even calling himself 'The Kraken' rather than Blackbeard. So basically, he'll need to stop believing he's a monster, which will hopefully help him stop acting like one.
History: Main Wiki | Wiki for E10, in which after he thinks he's been rejected by Stede, Ed assumes a terrifying persona he calls 'the Kraken' and reverts to his old cruelty.

[Oh look, Ed's back! Although the face on the screen doesn't really look all that much like Ed. The big bushy beard is gone, the scruff on his chin darked with black greasepaint, which also rims his eyes. His hair also seems darker; hard to say whether it's dyed or dirty. The long dangling earring is new, as is his overall expression of disgust, which carries over into his tone when he speaks.]
Some of you might have known me as Edward Teach, or Blackbeard. I'm called the Kraken now, and I won't answer to anything else. Edward Teach no longer exists. Any friendships he may have had here, no longer exist. Any promises he might have made? No longer exist.
Getting the picture? Good. Now piss off. And an especially big 'fuck you' for the Admiral.

Basically, it all felt like some sort of sick joke at Ed's expense, in that the end was in sight with Petronilla on the verge of graduating, after which Ed would receive his deal (which had been to save Stede's life and go live together in China), but Ed had been sent home too early, before that actually happened. While Stede hadn't been executed, as far as Ed could see that had been his doing not the Admiral's, when he'd invoked the Act of Grace, taking the refuge it offered. And then right when he was poised to make the China trip a reality, Stede was a no-show, standing him up.
Heartbroken, Ed had gone back to the Revenge, resumed his old life with a vengeance and then the fucking Admiral had gone and brought him back to the Barge! As an inmate, no less! Yeah, the joke was definitely on Ed. Any anger he'd felt towards Stede for rejecting him was nothing compared to the anger he was feeling now towards the Admiral and the whole current situation.
Assigned to Custodial? Yeah, fuck that. Unless... he could manage to make any area dirtier than when he found it. Or rig random things to break at the slightest touch rather than make any repairs. Too bad he doesn't know how to write because lewd graffiti on the walls would be satisfying.
