Is it okay for another character to recognize yours as fictional? Welp, he's not fictional, although parts of this version of him certainly are, so any character who 'knows' Blackbeard can certainly claim he's not the 'real' one.
Is it okay for yours to be recognized as an actor? Nah.
Is it okay for your character be informed of future events by canonmates that come from later canon points? Possibly? Please check with me first.

IC CHARACTERISTICS:
•CURRENT CANON POINT: S1:E9 Act of Grace; the point where Stede is about to be executed End of S1.
•PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Edward is about 6' tall, slender build, his most noticeable characteristics being his long greying hair and beard (beard is now gone). He doesn't use cologne and hopefully will eventually get into the habit of bathing regularly, so no distinctive scent. He speaks with a New Zealand accent using modern vernacular because the showrunner doesn't give a fuck. His usual outfit is all leather and very biker-ish; a rip-off of Mad Max with knives and pistols instead of wrenches and binoculars.
•DEMEANOR: Basically, there are two people living inside him: Blackbeard, whose behavior can be very erratic and temperamental, viewing himself as the 'kraken' ie a monster of his own making, and can act cold, vicious and cruel at times (although a lot of it is just that: an act, with Blackbeard being in some respects a character Ed plays) (no longer an act after his canon update).

And then there's Edward, who's somewhat good-natured with a sense of humor, calm, mellow and unbothered by most things; a man who wants to be loved rather than feared. We don't actually see all that much of him, with Blackbeard being the more dominant personality, in early canon, anyway. Later on, it's Stede's influence which brings Edward out more (that part is buried now, after the canon update.)
•ABILITIES: Blackbeard is a standard human with no magical or otherwise enhanced abilities. He is a topnotch sailor, an exceptional sword fighter, very accurate with a dagger and a flintlock pistol, and can certainly hold his own in a fistfight (sometimes to a manic degree). He's developed a certain skill at avoiding being killed when stabbed in the gut (implausible though it may be), so he's cheated death on a regular basis in that respect.
•MEDICAL INFORMATION: Human! A whole bunch of scars on his abdomen from being run through with a sword a dozen times.
•CABIN INFORMATION: Door, Cabin interior. Post canon update: same cabin but with all the books, curtains and knickknacks gone and no more hidden closet.
•OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS: He has a few daddy issues and when he was a teenager actually killed his father, so he might be a bit touchy about related topics. He doesn't care much for snobbish aristocrats either.
